WORKSHOPS & CLASSES
Interested in learning from me? I can’t wait to share the joy of clay with you!
Playing with clay will teach you about yourself
Learning to work with clay is a journey. It can be healing, a release, a challenge, or an adventure! The first step is learning to let go, get messy, and enjoy the ride, regardless of the outcome. Clay is experiential, full of discovery, and sometimes a little frustration. Mostly, it's a lot of laughs! Check out my classes and workshop options here if you'd like a playful, giggly guide to help introduce you to the world of pottery.

Hey! I'm Jas
I'll be your guide, instructor, enthusiast, cheerleader, supporter, and all-around snarky laughter buddy.
Quick Breakdown / The phases of ceramics
1. THROWING
(Or handbuilding) This is what you picture in your head when someone says they do pottery. You sit at a wheel and get your hands muddy using fresh clay to form into some kind of vessel or figure. Fun! Messy!
2. TRIMMING
After waiting between about a day or up to a week (covered), your item will be leatherhard and firm but still malleable. This is when we refine the shape, create a foot, and sometimes carve in additional designs.
3. BISQUE-FIRING
One your pieces are bone-dry (devoid of moisture), it's time for their first firing. This part of the process involves a lot more waiting—first, for full dryness to be achieved, and eventually, for the kiln to spend the day firing your vessel.
4. GLAZING
Less like painting than you'd expect: glaze, when fired, eventually essentially becomes glass. Whatever decorative choices you make, remember that glazes rarely look anything like they will after firing.
5. FINAL FIRING
Also called glaze-firing. After another day in the kiln at the highest heat yet, your clay will vitrify, becoming ceramic and food-safe, and look dramatically different. Welcome to your finished piece!
