Clay Play Beginners’ Workshop

Let’s have a blast together! This is a beginners’ one-off intro-to-the-pottery-wheel lesson, offered at my home studio in Normal Heights, San Diego. I have two wheels and can accommodate couples, friends, or family members who want a fun lesson experience and to make something delightful for a fair price. You’ll be shown a 15-minute demo on the basics of throwing on the wheel, and will be provided two 1-lb balls of clay, so you can make up to two pieces in our 90-minute lesson. I will provide guidance and support as you explore making your piece!

After your class, I’ll dry them and then glaze and fire them for you. You’ll have 4 studio glazes to select from, and they should be ready for pickup in about a month. You’ll be texted when they’re ready to go. This offer is $85 and includes firing one piece. If you elect to have your second piece fired as well, that’s an additional $15.
Additional Details
Very occasionally a piece won’t make it through the firing. The kiln gods do not always bless us. This is part of the ephemeral experience of pottery—learning to let go. Cracks, nicks, and imperfections happen and we must accept it as part of the process. However, in the case of a more extreme issue with a piece, such as full breakage, you will have options.
Either a) me providing you with a recreation that’s in as close approximation as possible, or b) you schedule a second workshop booking at the reduced price of $60 if you’d prefer to come back and give it another go.
Workshop Schedule
STAGE ONE: 15 Mins
Demo on how to throw a basic form on the wheel: centering, coning up and down, opening, and pulling/shaping walls.
STAGE TWO: 60 mins
Now, you! I'll help/guide as needed. Your first form may take a bit of time, the second should flow a little easier.
STAGE THREE: 10 mins
Wrap-up! Choose which one you'll keep (or both!), make final decorative touches, and fill out your details and glaze choice.
STAGE FOUR: 5 mins
Clean up and head out! I'll text you when your items are ready for pickup in about a month!
