Frequently Asked Questions

HERE ARE SOME COMMON QUESTIONS—IF YOURS ISN'T ANSWERED, PLEASE POP OVER TO THE CONTACT PAGE AND I'LL LOOP BACK TO YOU.

1. How does shipping work?

I'm based in California and do not ship internationally at this time. I would absolutely love to, but the complete unpredictability of current tariff issues mean it's too risky at the moment. I hope this improves in the future. I currently ship to the continental USA using USPS or UPS. I ship items within no more than a week of the order being placed and expect it should take ~3-7 business days within the contiguous states. I provide tracking, however I cannot guarantee a package will arrive by a certain time. Please allow ample time if your order is a time-sensitive gift. Shipped items are packed carefully and thoroughly protected in recycled materials, primarily paper products, but I will reuse/recycle anything that comes through the studio. I cannot be held responsible once a package is marked as delivered, so if you have concerns about porch thieves in your area, please contact me prior to purchase and I can arrange signature confirmation for an additional fee.

2. What’s your return policy?

All sales are final. Every piece is a one-of-a-kind handmade item. I'm very detail-oriented, but no piece will be machined perfectly, which is great, because a cool human made it. Measurements are approximate. I don’t accept returns or exchanges, so please be intentional about your purchase. Understand that every piece may have small imperfections and quirks and that is the very nature of this beautiful medium. I work very hard to accurately portray each item, but please be sensitive to the fact that colors may differ from screen to screen. I do take quality seriously, so if your piece arrives damaged, then please hang on to the original packaging and photograph the damage. Email me at jas@jasfitz.com within 48 hours of delivery receipt. Once approved, I will provide you return shipping for the original piece, and once received, I will either refund you or provide a replacement that is similar to the original. I package EXTREMELY carefully and protectively so this is very rare.

3. How often do you do stock/shop updates?

Makers often work in phases, so updates are sporadic. My goal is every few months but it varies, especially during market seasons it can be longer. When I’m in my upload-new-stuff-to-the-shop era, the first to know will be my mailing list and I also announce updates on Instagram (@jasfitz).

4. What about custom work/wholesale?

I don’t accept custom commissions such as an idea you had or an item you saw online that you’d like replicated. That said, I may be able to produce a slight variation at a larger volume for a bulk order of an existing item I already offer (such as a change in glaze color). Email me about your needs! If you’re just looking to order a one-off of something out-of-stock, unfortunately you will just need to stay tuned for the next stock update.

5. Can I pick up my order?

Sure, if you’re in San Diego and would like to avoid the cost of shipping, please get in touch before ordering so we can coordinate a pickup time. My studio is in Normal Heights.

6. Do you offer gift certificates?

I’m considering it for the future but for now, I believe purchasing a specific item as a gift for someone is more meaningful. I know many folks are concerned about their taste not being the same as the giftee’s, but I treasure handmade items extra when the person purchasing it for me has specifically selected that item. It somehow carries a part of them in it because of that choice. So I say, choose the item boldly, choose something you truly do connect to yourself, and it will be injected with some of your own special magic as a result.

Sure do! I offer private lessons at a max of two guests at my studio in San Diego. Click this question title for a full description of my offerings.

8. Are these dishwasher/microwave safe?

Yup. I fire bisque to cone 06 and glaze to cone 6 (yes, those are very different). All my clay and glazes fit these parameters and are thoroughly tested at completion, and as a result can be put in the dishwasher or microwave without issue, though for delicate pieces such as my mini spoons, I recommend hand washing only. One exception: any pieces with gold cannot be put into the microwave—that’s actually real gold, and metal in the micro is a no-no. And in the dishwasher, the gold would likely be slowly worn away. So please handwash those pieces. For the maximum life-expectancy of these products, you might want to consider handwashing as things can wear or jostle in the dishwasher and although rare, chips can potentially occur. But honestly… I put most of mine in the dishwasher. Note that these are not oven-safe, so please don’t use them to cook anything in the oven, that would require a different clay. All items are fired to vitrification with safe well0fitted glazes, and are thus foodsafe unless specifically marked otherwise. Any pieces made with nichrome wire should NOT be put in the microwave as metal is a no-go—but these should generally be obvious as they are usually earrings and other jewelry, wall-hangings, or ornaments.

9. How do you even make all this cool stuff? What’s your process?

Well, everything is handmade by me, Jasmine, in my home studio here in the Normal Heights neighborhood of sunny San Diego, CA. If you’re asking about how ceramics works, essentially it’s broken down into a series of phases. I throw most of my work on the wheel, after which I trim and carve once leatherhard, and then once bone-dry (this takes a couple of weeks of drying time), it goes into its first kiln firing to be bisqued at cone 06. Then after cooling and unloading, it’s ready to be glazed and then it will go back into the kiln for its glaze firing, which I fire to cone 6 (yes, different than 06 by a lot of degrees). If I’m feeling saucy and I want to add something special to a piece I may yet do a third firing—a luster firing—to add a gold finish, for example. This process start-to-finish generally takes 3-4 weeks. So yes, ceramics is a complex multi-phased process that is heartfelt and handmade every step of the way. Thank you for appreciating how special this makes every piece!
