Intro-To-Pottery 5-Week Course

$350.00

Interested in learning all the fun phases of pottery? This is an introductory course for those new to the medium. Throwing on the wheel is just the start point, as we follow that with all the stages of this craft. The pottery process is several weeks long, with time-sensitive aspects involving drying to the right hardness (and firing waits). So if you’re eager not just to learn basic throwing, but to follow the process through each unique phase, and get experimental and playful with the decorative aspects that come in the later phases, then a class series is the perfect fit. For this 101 class, We’ll focus on bowls, mugs, or small vases. Many students like the fun of sharing the experience with a friend, partner, or family member, so I offer a discounted rate of $250 each for a total of $500 for a pair.

LOCATION:
Normal Heights, San Diego, CA
TIME:
Sundays at 2:00pm or Mondays at 6:30pm
DURATION:
Two hours/class for five weeks
INCLUDED:
All clay & glaze provided as well as tools
Classes are two hours each, and I offer these as a five-week series to ensure you have enough time to see the process through at least two times, start-to-finish (you may need to swing by after the final class to pick up your pieces). Most students will produce 4-6 items by the end of the course, and it really depends how detailed and decorative you elect to be with each of your pieces. You will begin with 2 or 3 1-lb balls of clay in weeks one and two, and by week three, I’ll bump you up to 1.5 or 2-lb balls of clay as you get the hang of working your clay. The first three weeks will be spent learning and improving your throwing, and learning and refining your trimming. Some students prefer to throw less and focus on the decorative options more heavily so may not make as many pieces but may have more elaborate pieces in the end. The last two weeks we’ll focus on wrap-up as your pieces should be bisque-fired and ready to glaze by that point, and glazing/glaze chemistry/kiln usage is a fairly detailed part of the learning process.
